The South Albany High School project was focused on adding and improving Career Technical Education (CTE) spaces in this multi-building campus. Through renovation, remodel, and new construction this project improved and added education spaces serving health occupations, metals, woods, and other industrial arts. The modernized and new spaces include additional classroom space for Metals, Woods and Industrial Arts, an outdoor learning and construction area, new Maker Spaces, an auxiliary gym, and two Health Occupations classrooms. Additionally, the project included several critical facility upgrades including restroom renovations, security camera expansions, enclosing the campus with fencing, access controls, roofing, paving, and HVAC .
Towards the end of this project, an on-site fire did extensive damage to part of the existing building as well as part of the new construction. HMK was honored to be able to support the district, school, and community through the restoration, reconstruction, and healing after what was their second school fire in only five years. The ongoing relationship between HMK and the district allowed us to jump right in and support them with not only rebuilding but also navigating complex claims processes, managing smoke and water damage restoration, and supporting the school community in rethinking their existing spaces while they were displaced from their damaged buildings.
