Classroom Building
On December 27th, 2016, the historic cafeteria, gymnasium, library and classroom building burned down in a fire.
HMK was onsite the next day, once the fire department had cleared the site, and immediately had temporary facilities in place to accommodate students, when students returned from winter break. Additionally, we had a hazardous material consultant test and monitor the site to ensure there wasn’t a threat to students and the community. With a clear and safe site, we began working with the insurance agency to determine the value of the loss. Concurrently, we began strategizing a new replacement building that would meet the programmatic need, be durable, meet the budget (within insurance settlement) and could be built quickly. The district determined a pre-engineered metal building would meet their needs. Despite challenges with the bidding market and not receiving bids on bid day, we were able to negotiate a contact with a contractor and complete the building in December of 2018. We were able to complete the building, with 100% insurance reimbursement.
